The Malta Under-19 squad are heading to Austria for a six-day training camp during which they will also play two friendly matches.
Winston Muscat, the Malta Under-19 coach who is assisted by Stefano Grima, has selected a squad of 20 players for this training camp which is part of the team’s build-up for their UEFA Under-19 Championship qualifiers against hosts Italy, Slovakia and Cyprus in November.
Muscat’s squad is a mix of players who featured at the last UEFA U-19 qualifying mini-tournament at the Centenary Stadium in November, where the Malta U-19s finished third with four points, and a host of new players who have been promoted from the Malta U-17 squad.
The team has been training for the past three weeks as after the end of the youth league, the technical staff managed to gather a squad of 30 players. Having said that they had to contend with some injuries, especially since it was the end of the season.
The players were monitored, their fitness levels were good, but apart from the physical aspect, they also focused on the tactical aspect which is also very important in light of the UEFA Under-19 qualifiers in November.
This training camp is an opportunity to further unite this group by working on the psychological aspect to strengthen the players’ self-belief.
