The national under 18 female squad, which is participating in the FIBA European Championships Division C being played in Andorra, ended its commitments in the group phase on a perfect note with three straight wins.
In fact Malta set off with an encouraging 67-29 win over Monaco which was followed, a day later, with a resounding 96-43 win over Moldova. In the last group match Malta continued on its positive streak with a 63-36 win over hosts Andorra.
The semifinals will beplayed on Saturday 3rd August and Malta will face Georgia. The latter ended in the second spot in the other group with just a single loss against group winners Armenia.
The male under 18 Division C Championships are also being played contemporarily in Andorra and here the Malta boys set off with a tight 82-81 win over Armenia. However Malta had to bow down to Albania 67-80 and Gibraltar 59-69 in the next two days. In the last group match, Malta returned to winning ways with a 62-58 success over San Marino.
With two wins and losses respectively Malta ended in the third spot in group B and will now play Moldova (Saturday 3rd August) and Andorra (Sunday 4th August) in the 5th to 9th spot classification games.
