The top 16 nations, split into 4 groups, will be battling it out in the Olympic Outdoor Swimming Pool over the next week in this prestigious competition.
GROUP A: Russia, Italy, Turkey, MALTA
GROUP B: Montenegro, Georgia, Greece, Romania
GROUP C: Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Netherlands
GROUP D: Spain, Croatia, Germany, France
Malta played their first match yesterday against Italy, where they lost 20-4. The Maltese goals came from Benjamin Cachia, Sebastian Busuttil, Jake Bonavia and Jake Muscat.
Later today at 13:00 they will meet Turkey, with the final group match being played against Russia on Tuesday 13th August at 20:30.
The cross-over matches will be played on Wednesday 14th August – 4 th Group A vs 4th Group C, 4th Group B vs 4th Group D, 2nd Group A vs 3rd Group C, 2nd Group C vs 3rd Group A, 2nd Group B vs 3rd Group D and 2nd Group D vs 3rd Group B. These matches will be followed by the Quarter Finals and the ranking matches spread over four days.
The team is under the guidance of Karl Izzo assisted by Anthony Farrugia. Edward Bonello is the physiotherapist and Karl Galea is the Team Manager. Mario Dalli is the referee representing Malta.
The contingent, led by Joe Caruana Curran ASA President, left Malta this morning and will return on Monday 19 th August 2019.
